German corporate buyers examine your setup, not your product

The demo goes well, then a security questionnaire arrives. Where data is processed, who can reach it and how it is deleted shape the sales cycle more than the product does.

The data processing agreement is a checklist, not a formality

German corporate buyers ask for the list of sub-processors, the hosting region and the technical measures before signing. If that information is scattered across the product team it gets reassembled on every deal and the cycle stretches. Keeping it current in one place produces a measurable speed difference in sales and disciplines the architecture too.

In multi-tenant architecture, deletion is a design question

When a customer asks for their data to be deleted, the answer should not be how many places have to be searched. If it is not known from the start where data lives, including backups, log files, analytics systems and exports, deletion cannot be promised. It is among the most expensive features to add later and among the cheapest to design in.

Invoicing and contract language travel together

A subscription invoice carries the same mandatory fields as any other in Germany, and the expectation of a structured format arrives earlier with corporate buyers. Which language the contract is in is a separate decision that usually depends on the size of the buyer. Legal content belongs to partner law firms; we build the invoice and the subscription flow.

Four preparations before enterprise sales

  • Is the sub-processor list and hosting region current
  • On a deletion request, is it known where the data lives
  • Does the subscription invoice carry German mandatory fields
  • Is there one source that answers the security questionnaire
Do we have to keep all data in the EU?

Whether it is legally required depends on your case and is a matter for a partner law firm. In practice staying inside the EU shortens the sales cycle: being able to answer the question in one sentence beats a long explanation. That is why it is the simple answer for most companies.

Can we sell to enterprises without localising the product?

Often yes. In enterprise software the interface can stay in English; the real expectation sits on contracts, invoices, support and documentation. The cheapest order is to build those four in German first and leave the interface until demand is measured.
